Fucked Up: Couple Tracks

If you release so many 7″s on so many labels sooner or later even the most hardcore fan is going to miss something – and those unhappy Fucked Up fans will be very happy to see this double CD/LP. Beginning with their first A side and ending with versions of material from crossover albums Hidden World and Chemistry of Common Life, with some surprising diversions on the way, this covers nearly a decade of FU stuff.

Some samples: that first track, which is pretty basic hardcore but still bracing stuff, constructed as it is around the anti-fascist rallying cry ‘No Pasaran’ and introduced by a snippet from Ken Loach’s brilliant Land and Freedom (1995). Play loud. Second, something rather different – the Up’s cover of the Shop Assistants’ ‘I Don’t Want To Be Friends With You’, which will have angrybonbon twitching 🙂  Part of the strange adventures of twee in the US, certainly… some Dolly Mixture covers here too.

Lots more on these two discs, everything from foot-down hardcore to the more melodic stuff. Highly recommended, if you don’t mind different versions of things you might already have.

  1. One day I will digitise the c90 I have of Ride and the Shop Assistants doing Blondie covers – given out a gig at the Jericho Tavern in Oxford in 19ahem,ahem.

    Then you’ll be sorry.

  2. Don’t bother with the R*de, but I’d love to hear some live Shoppies… think I saw them with the Wedding Present at ULU in the same decade.

  3. oh and could you digitise yr ‘Machines’ mixtape first please thxbai? 🙂

  4. I ain’t got a copy!

  5. somewhere in the loft probably, next to a demo-tape by a mid-80s pioneering Goth band.

    Big in Ukraine, y’know.

  6. You have Ride recordings? So you’ve been in denial all this time? The inquest starts here angrybonbon.
